One of the tricky parts to learning Mandarin is being able to hear and speak using the four tones.

  • The First Tone (mā): high without any pitch variation
  • The Second Tone (má): rises from low to high
  • The Third Tone (mǎ): first falls and then rises
  • The Fourth Tone (mà): falls from high to low
